Genetics:
Chronic was created from a genetic cross between an AK47, a Northern Light and a cross between a Northern Light and a Skunk. This potent cross is a strain with primarily indica origins.

Chronic's genetics produce a medium sized plant, not too dense, this is the perfect combination of high yield and excellent quality. Every grower who grows this variety properly stands open-mouthed in front of his plants at harvest time, amazed at the enormous size of the cola and the beauty of the Chronic flowers.
It grows primarily into a large central bud that is pleasing to the eye and has only a few side branches.
Chronic does not respond well to topping, it is better to prefer a 'One Bud' or a selection of the most beautiful side branches.
The grower must pay special attention to the drying process to preserve that sweet honey scent. Simon makes the following recommendations: "Even when alive, the scent of wildflowers is subtle, and will be lost forever if not dried properly. If placed in plastic before it is completely dry, the scent will be irretrievably gone, this applies even more to this variety than to any others I have worked with."

A little history:
Every cannabis seed breeder strives to create the optimal combination of quality, quantity and potency. Well, Serious Seeds, for example, is definitely a seed bank that has achieved this goal by selecting the famous Chronic strain. When introduced in 1994, it set a new standard in combining superior yield, flavor and potency excellence in a single plant. If cultivation and harvest had been an active part of the High Times Cannabis Cup screening ceremony, Chronic would certainly have won more than 3rd place in the hydroelectric category in 1994, when she was entered into the Cup for the first and only time. Because the buds are not only huge, but also almost leafless, beautifully composed of abundant small individual flower clusters that add up to large brick-sized colas or even larger ones.
Chronic's family tree is very classic, composed of Northern Lights/Skunk x Northern Lights/AK-47. That is the formula of today's Chronic. The original, which existed in the 90s, did not contain AK. But in the late 1990s, Simon, the breeder of Serious Seeds, thought that his Chronic was somehow "outdated", as he puts it, and that it needed to be refreshed and made more complex by crossing in a small degree of new superior genetics. He chose his trusty AK-47. It was of the utmost importance not to lose any of these wonderful characteristics that had made the strain so popular with breeders worldwide. Simon reports: "I bred more sativa into the indica-dominant Chronic, which gave it a more complex and fuller high spectrum without losing the good yield and taste. The facelift improved both the resistance and the resin content. The slightly sweet scent with a little spiciness also remained intact."
